Marine conservation vessel MAKO moved to the Ionian Sea
After consulting with our sponsors and partner Healthy Seas, we decided to relocate our marine conservation vessel M/V MAKO. We made this decision based on years of experience cleaning up the Dutch North Sea. Unortunately, the rough, unpredictible weather conditions blocked too many of our planned activities from going ahead. On the other hand, we observed a gigantic for action in Greek waters..
The pollution caused by lost fishing gear and abandoned fish farms, so-called “Ghost Farms” in Greece is massive. Therefore, MAKO will stay here for upcoming years!
MAKO‘s new home base is now Vathy, Ithaca. From this iconic and beautiful island she will take us to the future marine conservation projects and clean-up activities in the Ionian Sea and even beyond.
Get ready to see marine conservation vessel MAKO in action a lot more than has been possible before. That’s what she was built for, after all!
Our work wouldn’t be possible without strong partnerships. Healthy Seas continues to support MAKO’s mission, ensuring that every dive and survey contributes to long-term marine conservation goals.
Local communities in Ithaca are already getting involved, providing logistical support and helping identify priority areas for cleanup.
