Lobster Hoop Nets – Arrow Point Cleanup Mission
Silent Killers
Lobster hoop nets (also called hoop-style traps or pots) are lightweight, often plastic-coated frames or pots connected by lines and surface buoys. When lost (due to storms, snagging on wrecks/reef, or simply abandoned) they remain functional and become deadly traps.
Ghost Diving USA reported multiple cleanups where volunteer divers recovered hoop-style lobster pots – demonstrating both the frequency of lost pots on structures and the effectiveness of cleanup missions.
Arrow Point – Lobster Hoop Nets Cleanup Mission
September 21st, 2025 is an example of a successful cleanup mission. Ghost Diving USA recovered multiple lobster pots from a reef at Arrow Point, a Marine Protected Area off Catalina Island.
Our volunteers dived to the depth of 170 ft (52 meters) with water temperature of 58°F (14.4°C). It’s not the first and probably not the last time they recovered lobster hoop nets at this location.
💪 This is another step toward cleaner, healthier oceans!
